SD: Hi Katelyn. Can you introduce yourself to my readers who don’t know you yet?

KS: Hey! I’m Katelyn Storey and I’m currently a National Finalist for Miss Galaxy this year! This will be my second time competing in a pageant as I competed for Miss Earth Australia last year. Outside of pageant land, I’m a partially blind actress who’s just graduated with a Bachelor of Dramatic Arts, and my hobbies include circus aerials and video games. I’m very passionate about storytelling and hope to bring my own stories to the big screen one day!

SD: You’re a finalist for Miss Galaxy Australia 2024. Can you tell us more about it?

KS: Australia Galaxy Pageants has been around since 2011 and is by our director, Shikye Smith. She’s actually the first Australian to win the international Miss Galaxy title! I’m currently prepping for pageant week, which is happening in May. I still have a bunch to do, I’m finalising my fundraiser plans at the moment.

SD: How did you become interested in pageants?

KS: About halfway through last year it really hit me that I was in the final year of my degree, and I was really stressed about what I was gonna do with my life after uni and if I would ever accomplish anything. I remember seeing an ad for Miss Earth Au and thought “Why not? It’s worth a shot”. I didn’t actually think I would get in! I was worried that I would be way out of my depth, but I had so much fun! Pageantry is another form of performance for me, so I’m back and ready to strut on stage again.

SD: What’s in your makeup bag right now?

KS: A caffeine eye serum for my chronic eye bags and a super cute Malibu Barbie eyeshadow palette! I use that palette so often I’m starting to run out of the pink.

SD: What is your vision of success?

KS: My idea of success would to be able to write and develop my own stories for movies and TV, to have a creatively fulfilling career.

SD: What do you admire in a woman and why?
KS: Confidence, kindness, and their own sense of style! I love discovering women on social media who make the most fabulous and colourful fashion content, and it inspires me to dress as dramatically as I like!

SD: If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

KS: I would encourage her to be confident about her interests and the things she cares about. I struggled with some pretty intense social anxiety in high school and didn’t really start to settle into myself until I started drama school, so I wish I had been able to start that sooner.

SD: Who are you most inspired by in the Pageant World and why?

KS: Erica Robin, the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan! She competed last year and placed in the Top 20! She wore a burkini in the swimsuit round and I LOVE that she found a way to participate without compromising her values. I’m so proud of her!

SD: How have beauty pageants impacted your life and your career?

KS: It has encouraged to me to not be afraid to sparkle in my daily life, to able to take up space with my presence and that that’s okay to do!

SD: What is your best beauty secret?

KS: Plenty of beauty sleep, confidence to wear the colours you love, and a lil bit of glitter!
