INTERVIEW with Kray || Island Haus Runway 2026 Runway Model

SD: Hi, Kray. For my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?

Kray: I’m Kray, based in Brisbane, Australia. I come from a business and engineering background, and outside of work I’ve always been heavily into fitness, fashion and staying active. I’ve always been someone who likes to challenge myself and keep growing, so modelling has been a really interesting direction for me. After getting involved in runway shows and photoshoots, I found myself really enjoying the whole process, from the preparation and discipline behind the scenes to stepping onto the runway and owning the moment.

SD: Describe your personal style of clothing?

Kray: I’d describe my style as clean, fitted and masculine. I like clothes that fit properly and suit my build, but I’m not someone who needs a lot going on with an outfit. I usually prefer a strong, simple look over something that feels forced. I’m also a big fan of black and neutral colours. At the same time, I enjoy fashion because it gives you the opportunity to step outside your usual style and try something completely different, especially when you’re working with a designer. For me, the way you carry yourself is just as important as what you’re wearing.

SD: When did you know you wanted to be a model?

Kray: Actually, I had my first photoshoot when I was around 17 or 18, and that was the first time I really thought I could be a model. I enjoyed being in front of the camera and seeing myself in that environment, and I remember thinking there was something I could potentially do with it.

But life took me in a different direction after that. For many years, my focus was elsewhere and I never really got the opportunity to pursue modelling properly. It was always something sitting in the back of my mind, though. When the opportunity started coming around again, I decided I wasn’t going to keep putting it off. I’d rather give it a real shot now and find out what I’m capable of than look back later and wonder what could have happened.

SD: If you could talk to your ten-year-old self, what would you say?

Kray: I’d probably tell him not to overthink everything and not to worry so much about what other people think. Back yourself, stay disciplined and don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. You’re going to change a lot as you grow, and not everything needs to happen at the same time.

I’d also tell him to take opportunities when they come. Sometimes you get a second chance at something years later, but you have to recognise it and have the confidence to take it. Trust yourself a little more and enjoy the process instead of always thinking about what comes next.

SD: What has been your most favourite photoshoot to date?

Kray: One of my favourites has been a recent shoot where everything just felt natural. The photographer understood the kind of look we were going for, and I felt comfortable enough to experiment rather than just thinking about every pose.

I also like shoots where I can bring my own personality into the images. I don’t want every photo to look like I’m simply posing for the camera. When the photographer, model and overall concept are on the same page, you can see the difference in the final images.

SD: What are you most excited about for Island Haus Runway?

Kray: I’m excited about the whole experience. Every runway has its own energy, and I’m looking forward to being around the other models, designers and creatives and seeing how everything comes together on the day.

I’m also looking forward to challenging myself and bringing my own personality and presence to the runway. For me, it’s not just about putting on an outfit and walking from one end to the other, it’s about how you carry yourself, how you own the space and how you represent the designer you’re wearing. I’m going out there to enjoy the moment, give it everything I’ve got and leave an impression.
