INTERVIEW with William Tan || Physicist

SD: Hi William, for my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?

WT: A physicist in radiation safety, I started my own scientific consultancy company over 20 years ago and now operate in all of Australia. I have co-founded several other businesses from property to legal to beauty to strategic marketing. I am a lover of experiences, especially events and food. I love driving and organise a few drive days.

SD: How do you define success?

WT: Success to me is to have life options in all we do. I can choose to do this or the other. I am not forced to go down one road only.

What 3 tips of advice would you give to anyone looking to start their own business?

WT: Be laser sharp focused on the vision and its outcome.
Be consistent in all you do towards the vision.
Be disciplined in all you do towards the vision.

SD: What is currently your favourite quote?

WT: Money doesn't buy you happiness, but you can give it away and help others so they will have less stress, a better life and be happier.

SD: What motivates and drives you?

WT: Life is short and numbered. I pushed myself to leave a legacy of experience that others may duplicate and succeed.

SD: What has been the most rewarding part of your businesses?

WT: Established as an expert in my scientific industry.

SD: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

WT: Potentially a new fashion label like Jimmy Choo.

SD: What would be the top skills needed to be successful in business?

WT: Effective communication (soft skills) and the art of outcome negotiation.
