SD: Hi Alana. Can you introduce yourself to my readers who don’t know you yet?

AS: Hi my name is Alana Salisbury, based in Melbourne and I am a full time Marriage Celebrant, Pilates Instructor in training and about to represent Victoria as a National finalist in the Mrs Galaxy Australia 2024 pageant.

Previously, I have worked for Virgin Airlines for 8 years which combined my love for travel and for people, I was fortunate to have travelled to so many beautiful Countries and Cities, and my favourite place in the World would most definitely be Japan!

Having been a flight attendant for some time, it has taught me to never judge a book by its cover, you never know what someone is going through, so always be kind.

I have chosen my life for a reason, as I was born and raised in a cult. I was engaged to be married at 19 and my life was similar to that of Groundhog day. So when I left my faith at the age of 22, I vowed to myself to never settle, to never take my life for granted and to cherish every new day, my life now has purpose!

In saying that, I waited till my Mr perfect came into my life, and nearly 10 years after the fact, I found my knight in shining armour straight after filming the first season of The Australian Bachelor, I had my dream wedding and a marriage which is filled with love, support and above all trust. (and no he wasn’t the Bachelor, Anna ended up marrying Tim).

SD:
You’re a finalist for Mrs Galaxy Australia 2024. Can you tell us more about it?

AS: Australia Galaxy Pageants is reputable as it is fun, it is a platform where they encourage all women to be the best version of themselves, to love who they are and to help make a difference in the communities in which we live.

Working alongside batyr, delegates are encouraged to volunteer and help fundraise for the incredible work batyr do, with raising awareness and sharing stories with youth struggling with mental health

There is no better feeling when all the delegates come together, support and encourage one another and share uplifting stories, women from all walks of life, over four different categories, it really is a surreal experience.

SD:
How did you become interested in pageants?

AS: My mother was in the Miss Australia Quest in 1975, and so I would often parade around the house in her sash pretending to have won Miss Australia.

So it only made sense for my love affair with pageants to begin with the Miss Australia Quest in 2013, having placed first runner up, it was safe to say I was in love, I loved everything about pageants.

It so happened, that a few months later I entered a local Melbourne pageant called Magnificent Miss, which was held at the Melbourne Crown Casino. I formed so many beautiful friendships and together we rallied alongside Heart Kids Australia to raise much needed funds for children battling hearts disease. The night was a huge success, so much money raised and I was so proud of myself for walking away that night, crowned the new Magnificent Miss.

SD:
What’s in your makeup bag right now?

AS: Tom Ford Liquid foundation leaves your skin flawless, as well as Mecca lip gloss pots as I love a shiny lip. Oh and duo glue, because nobody wants their fake eyelashes fluttering around in the wind!

SD:
What is your vision of success?

AS: Success to me is being happy, it is those tiny every day steps to creating a healthy and happy you!

SD:
What do you admire in a woman and why?

AS: Women are so incredibly capable of so many things, having grown up where women have their place in the church and that is to remain quiet, I admire women who have a voice!

I have always admired strong and independent women, but I also respect those women who can at times be vulnerable and admit when they need that extra bit of love and support.

SD:
If you could give one piece of advice to your 14 year old self, what would it be?

AS: Do not let anyone tell you that you are not good enough, you are worth more than you know

SD:
Who are you most inspired by in the Pageant World and why?

AS: Can I say Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality? Just joking!

I have always been inspired by Jennifer Hawkins, who was crowned Miss Universe Australia in 2004. She has always held herself with such integrity, and after such extreme media scrutiny over the years, she has always managed to show such grace and poise in all she does.

SD: How have beauty pageants impacted your life and your career?

AS: They have had a positive impact on my life, from providing many opportunities to be a part of different charity organisations, as well as the privilege to work alongside those who don’t have a voice, to help empower those who may be struggling.

SD:
What is your best beauty secret?

AS: Drink water and loads of it, I drink over 2 litres a day and it certainly helps to keep everything running smoothly inside and out! It really is that simple 😊
