INTERVIEW with Dr Jane Chimungeni-Brassington || Environmentalist, Community Advocate and Model
SD: Hello, Dr Jane. For my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
JC: My name is Dr Jane Chimungeni-Brassington. I am an environmentalist, community advocate and model based in Brisbane, Australia.
SD: You are a fashion model. What inspired you to get into it and what do you love most about it?
JC: From a young age, I had a deep passion for fashion. At high school I studied clothing, textiles and design to become a seamstress. After high school I began designing clothes and tailoring for my family and started a business to earn pocket money. However as life unfolded, I found that responsibilities led me away from pursuing my creative passion. At age 62 I decided to rekindle my love for fashion and took my first steps back in the spotlight on the runway. I love the community I have built from modelling as well as the personal and professional growth, inspiration and having a platform for social advocacy and community service.
SD: Describe your personal style of clothing.
JC: My fashion sense is dynamic. I am versatile and adaptable and delight in experimenting with various styles of fashion, always infusing them with my unique cultural flair. I like to explore new trends and embrace diverse aesthetics.
SD: If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
JC: I would tell my younger self to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve. Also not to be afraid to express my feelings, even if it's uncomfortable or difficult.
SD: How do you think people in the fashion industry can collaborate together and support each other?
JC: People in the fashion industry can collaborate together and support each other by acknowledging that each person is created uniquely and represents a very important part of humanity and has different skills. They should foster a culture of trust and respect, building strong partnerships for innovation, networking and building valuable relationships.
SD: How do you define success and what are the keys to success?
JC: Success to me is measured by my personal growth, healthy relationships and meaningful contributions to society.
