INTERVIEW with Milisont Siai Rose Sailor || Island Haus Runway 2026 Runway Model
SD: Hi, Milisont. For my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
Milisont: My name is Milisont Siai Rose Sailor and I’m a First Nations Melanesian x European model and creative from the Torres Strait but born and raised on Turrbul and Kabi Kabi Country here in Queensland. Some of my passions are dance, content creation, fashion and cultural women’s business.
SD: Describe your personal style of clothing?
Milisont: I think both my ailan gyel and my European roots come out through the way I dress. There’s definitely a sensual bold and playful side with softer, traditional girly side co-existing- both can be modest or revealing. Always a touch of staple vintage pieces, with gold accessories, or leopard print, and a red lip. Other times I’ll wear a flowing skirt, with a small top, popping colour, big gold hoops, a belly chain and brown lip liner with gloss.
SD: When did you know you wanted to be a model?
Milisont: I began modelling when I was 11 or 12 for a First Nations Aboriginal designer Nicholas Donlen, it definitely wasn’t a dream at first. Other people around me in the arts saw my potential and gave me opportunities- which I accepted with the unwavering support of my ama (mother). It was only until I had the freedom to tap into my creativity with shoot collaborations with connections who were photographers, that I loved it and could really see myself making it an income or a career at 16.
SD: If you could talk to your ten-year-old self, what would you say?
Milisont: If I could go back in time and meet my 10 year old self. I’d say:
When you question who you are, why you’re here, the people around you and where you come from- remember what you love, makes you feel alive and makes you feel like you belong. That is your love and it will lead you down the right path. That is following your heart. Everything happening around will keep happening regardless.
SD: What has been your most favourite photoshoot to date?
Milisont: So far my favourite job has probably been my shoots with knobby, always such a fun experience. They’ve had me wrapped in snakes, on a property feeding goats and horses and standing on top of huge, inflatable bmx stunt ramps with no railings. Although, my favourite collab shoot is definitely with the beautiful Abbey (@abbeyjanelau) back in 2024- she captured my essence and I always look back at those photos and think that I can see myself in every stage of womanhood, it’s a strange feeling. I felt beautiful.
SD: What are you most excited about for Island Haus Runway?
Milisont: When I saw Island Haus Runway through sissy Shante’s instagram (@shantevdl__) I was mesmerised- not just by the girls but the diverse cultures shared between them. Combining contemporary fashion with culture has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. So seeing the designers from all over Pasifika is inspiring to me. I’ve always wanted to rework our ailan dress from Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait Islands) into more modern n playful designs but I’m no seamstress, just a creative. I’m just happy to be apart of this legacy.
