INTERVIEW with Shanté van de Linde || Island Haus Runway 2026 Runway Model
SD: Hi, Shanté. For my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
Shanté: Hi my name is Shanté van de Linde and I’m 27 years old. I am of Papua New Guinean, Dutch and Indian descent but I primarily identify with my PNG roots, specifically where my grandmother is from; Rabaul, East New Britain.
I’m currently a stay at home mum and I’m absolutely loving it, but before I had my son I was doing youth work which was also very fulfilling.
SD: Describe your personal style of clothing?
Shanté: I would describe my everyday style as child-proof! I’m usually wearing jeans a plain shirt and a pair of sneakers; something that I can run after my child in but looks put together at the same time!
When I want to dress up, I gravitate towards brighter colours as I feel like they compliment my brown skin.
SD: When did you know you wanted to be a model?
Shanté: With modelling I was pushed into the deep end so to speak! Initially I never had a desire to pursue modelling of any kind, but my uncle signed me up to audition for Pacific Fashion Festival when I was 18.
I went to that audition and was so scared but after a few rehearsals I gained so much confidence and fell in love with the idea of becoming a model and the way that it opens doors to expressing creativity and culture through fashion.
SD: If you could talk to your ten-year-old self, what would you say?
Shanté: I was extremely shy when I was younger and I’d always stay in my comfort zone.
So I would tell my 10 year old self to try new things even if they seem scary because growth can only happen when you’re outside your comfort zone.
I’d tell her that embracing her cultural heritage is not something to be embarrassed about, despite what peers may say and that staying true to yourself will take you as far as you wish.
SD: What has been your most favourite photoshoot to date?
Shanté: My favourite photoshoot to date was probably a recent shoot for Island Haus Runway, we were asked to come dressed in our cultural attire and it reigniting my love and passion for my PNG culture.
I am a proud Tolai woman and I carry the markings of my ancestors story across my chest.
So it was beautiful being a part of a photo shoot that showcased that and the wonderful diversity of our Pasifika women.
SD: What are you most excited about for Island Haus Runway?
Shanté: I’m most excited about the opportunity to continue to represent my culture, but also to showcase the beautiful designer pieces.
Especially knowing that it’s going towards a great cause! I cannot wait to see how this platform grows over the years!
