INTERVIEW with Wacker Clothing Company || Brisbane Fashion Month - Brisbane Designer Showcase 2025
SD: Hi Carlie, for my readers who don’t know you yet, can you please introduce yourself?
CW: Most of my career has been spent as a radio and television presenter which I still do casually. I have always been interested in fashion and involved in fashion shows and events. Around 8 years ago I landed a gig as the Fashion Editor for IN Noosa magazine and am currently the Fashion Editor and writer for IN Noosa mag and Hello Sunshine magazine on the Sunshine Coast. I live in Noosa with my husband and 2 fur kids.
SD: When did you first become interested in fashion design?
CW: Fashion design has been of interest since I was a little girl. I loved playing dress ups and creating things. I sampled a streetwear label inspired by my cheerleading era when I was around 18/19 years old but my career took me in the direction of radio so fashion took a sideline up until I was 47 years old. I launched Wacker Clothing Company as a menswear label in 2023 which has evolved into a womens fashion label now.
SD: What kind of music do you like and how do you incorporate it into your fashion design?
CW: I love so many different genres of music with my radio background but the music that really inspires me when it comes to my label is the French Cafe Lounge sound and cool 70s bands like Fleetwood Mac. I'm inspired by the golden era of Hollywood and always seek to capture the mid-century glamour and desert charm of Palm Springs where celebrities holidayed - so classic and vintage sounds from Frank Sinatra, Bridgette Bardot, Earth Wind and Fire are my go-tos.
SD: What would be your dream fashion gig right now?
CW: I am living my fashion dream right now getting to show my little Noosa label at Brisbane Fashion Month and recently The Ekka natural fibres show.
SD: How was the brand name Wacker Clothing Company created? What inspired it?
CW: My married surname is Wacker and I wanted to create a legacy for the family inspired by my late Mother In Law Joan Wacker. She used to show me photos of all the beautiful gowns and garments she would create in her early years and I wanted to recreate some of those - so it's really a way to acknowledge and show appreciation for the family I have.
SD: Without giving too much details away, what should we expect from your collection for Brisbane Fashion Month this year?
CW: The Wacker Clothing Company collection always blends quiet luxury, sustainability and heritage-inspired elegance. With timeless silhouettes, ethically sourced fabrics and emotionally rich design backstories, it’s for anyone who sees fashion as more than attire—it’s a narrative.
